The efforts of the School of Computing in supporting engagement with schools is noteworthy – University of Kent 2012

Our admissions staff are able to visit schools and talk to students, covering topics such as:

  • studying at university
  • studying Computing at University
  • Unbiased advice about the variety of Computing programmes on offer;
  • The UCAS applications process

We organise events for Key Stage 3 and 4 students to visit campus for workshops with LEGO® robotics and Greenfoot – developing Java programs with animations.

Together with SETPOINT Kent & Medway we run regional events for the annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) which sets scientific challenges to children aged 9-16.  This involves children in hands-on robotics design and authentic scientific research culminating at high-energy, sports-like tournaments. #

We provide workshops for teachers, such as INSET training on Java programming, LEGO® robotics, and developments in the World Wide Web.  We can provide other workshops on request.  We have developed various resources for use with schools, for example documents for use by schools with the LEGO® Mindstorms RCX and NXT equipment.
